Three members of the Earth System Science Center staff were recently honored for their special service to the center and its partners.
The inaugural ESSC awards were presented to Linda Berry, senior coordinator of ESSC programs, and to Lori Schultz and Jordan Bell, research associates who work with NASA’s disaster assistance program.
In presenting the award to Berry, Dr. John Christy, the ESSC director, said: “Your dedicated service to the ESSC enterprise has been phenomenal and incomparable. The stories of your selfless sacrifice to produce complicated budgets for P.I.’s that are often right up against the deadlines are uncountable. You always come through for us … even during difficult times while you were on sick leave.”
Bell and Schultz were honored for their contributions during relief efforts following hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
“The service you provided to those who needed your skill and expertise, to supply satellite information to those in desperate situations … was reported to me from several sources,” Christy said. “Working upwards of 80 hours in some weeks to see that the information was accurately processed and disseminated represents how you went above and beyond the call of duty.”
