Kel Markert, a senior Earth System Science major, will present findings from a summer 2013 research project with the NASA DEVELOP program to a special session at the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing annual conference this week in Louisville, KY.
Markert, who also is the program lead for the NASA DEVELOP program in Huntsville, will present information on a project using NASA Earth observations to monitor threats to protected forest areas in the Chittagong Hills Tracts of southeastern Bangladesh. This work was done in conjunction with NASA DEVELOP’s affiliate in Nepal, the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development.
As the program lead, Markert coordinates research activities for students and young professionals who spend a semester working with the DEVELOP program. During the spring semester there are seven students working on two research projects here.
